Important Update #2 3/7/12
UNODC officially met Iranian representative and expressed dismay and concern about Iranian VP’s anti-semitic statements
UNODC Executive Director Meets Iranian Official Regarding Vice-President’s Anti-Semitic Comments at an Event in Tehran on International Day Against Drug Abuse and Drug Trafficking and expressed his dismay and serious concern about these comments. He reiterated that this was not a UN event and affirmed the earlier comments of the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, on 27th June, when he said he has “…on many occasions called on Iranian officials to refrain from these kinds of anti-Semitic statements.
UNODC Chief Yury Fedotov declared in his official twitter, that the event in Tehran was not official UN event (we stated in the article that the event was under the auspices of the UNODC) and dismayed by the comments of Vice-President of Iran in the name of (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime)
On June 26th, the International Day against Drug Abuse, an international drug conference was held in Teheran under the auspices of the UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) headed by Mr. Yury Fedotov.
The reason for holding the conference in Teheran is a renewed and dubious affirmation of the UNODC’s appraisal of Iran in the global war against drugs.
During the conference, Iran’s VP’s made a speech that included the following anti-Semitic racist accusations:
- “Zionists” control the global illegal drug trade based on the “fact” that there isn’t a single “Zionist drug addict”.
- The Talmud teaches Jews to “destroy everyone who opposes Jews so as to protect an embryo in the womb of a Jewish mother”.
- The “Zionists” ordered gynecologists to kill “black babies” and sterilize Native Americans.
- 80% of America’s wealth is held by 6% of the world’s Jewish population.
- The Jews were responsible for the Bolshevik revolution in which “not a single Jew died”.
If there ever was a red line that was crossed by Iran’s leaders’ attacks on Israel and Jews, this is it.
This is a which calls for all the people around the world to choose which side of the red line they support.
Some leaders made their stance clear.
Rahimi’s speech and its contents were condemned world-wide by such leaders as UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and Foreign Ministers from around the world (Giulio Terzi – Italy, Alistair Burtby – UK, John Baird – Canada) to name a few.
What is perplexing is that other Western leaders are still waiting on the side-lines and by doing so, passively support Mr. Rahimi’s outrageous, dubious and racist speech.
Most perplexing of all is the silent support of Rahimi by the UNODC and specifically, the UNODC chief, Fedotov.
Fedotov has been praising Iran’s role in the war on drugs for years disregarding evidence linking Iran’s famed Revolutionary Guard Corps with drug trafficking through Afghanistan as well as Iran’s frequent use of the death penalty in drug-related offenses without due trial. To date, Mr. Fedotov has not issued any statement concerning Mr. Rahimi’s anti-Semitic speech.
We urge you to write a message to UNODC condemning their inactiveness on these emails.
